We’ll Miss You

Can anything warm the heart and squeeze the life out of it more than these words? Two Fridays in a row…

And I’ll miss them.

It was almost like having an extended Silent Weekend. For those who don’t know, SW (as we like to call it – less fingerspelling) is a quarterly weekend event where the signing community comes together to enjoy one another’s company and provide an immersive experience for ASL students. One park ranger remarked to our leader that he had never experienced a group where the only sound was laughter.

Granted, we didn’t play cards, SET, or Roxy’s 4-person skit relay (much laughter), but there is an oversized Jenga and Connect Four set. And did I mention that it’s perfectly ok to write on the walls?? Almost everything’s a whiteboard, complete with a shiny set of markers and an invitation to make notes.

Friday was the end of my volunteer time at Deaf Bible Society. I tagged some videos, moved some files, participated in some meetings, shared a story of God’s provision, copied some data… and with the exception of a few side conversations, the only sound was laughter.

I miss them.
